Weather in South Korea has very minimal variations throughout the country.
The main difference is that the south of the country is a bit warmer and windier than the north.
South Korea has four seasons:
- spring between March and May
- summer between June and August
- autumn between September and November
- winter between December and February
Spring and autumn are considered to be the best time to visit South Korea. Both seasons boast a cool and pleasant weather with mostly clear skies and plenty of sunshine.
Weather in South Korea by month
March marks the beginning of spring, however the temperature is still below 10°C. Normally it is partly sunny with a little rain. It is advisable to wear a warm coat and a scarf to be able to enjoy sightseeing and hiking.
April sees light breeze and warm sunlight. Korea’s cherry blossom season starts in early April and attracts many tourists. Daily temperatures are getting higher, the number of rainy days is very low and nights are still cold in April.
May is the last month of spring in South Korea and is probably one of the best months to visit the country. The weather is sunny and warm, the number of rainy days is low, humidity level is comfortable. May is perfect for trekking and enjoying flowers in bloom.
June is the first month of summer and is a good time to visit the country. The weather is sunny and warm, the number of rainy days is still very low, humidity level is comfortable. June is perfect for trekking and enjoying the beach.
July and August face high temperatures along with high humidity levels. Monsoons rains can be expected very often at this time of the year.
September is the first month of autumn in South Korea. The first half of the month is still hot, humid and rainy. The weather gets more pleasant by the end of September.
October and November can boast a pleasant weather. The skies are mostly clear, the number is rainy days is low and the temperatures are perfect for sightseeing or trekking.
December is the first month of winter. There is usually no snow in December and most of the days are sunny, however the temperatures decrease significantly.
January and February are the coldest months of the year in South Korea. The skies are mostly clear however the weather is freezing with some occasional snow showers.
